Whodunnit by Steve Cantwell

A real performance piece, this is no throw-away packet trick to breeze through before moving on to something else.  This is a masterpiece of eerie mental magic to linger over until you can almost hear their spines tingling.

A card is freely chosen and your spectator writes on its face the murderer of his choice, covering it with a prediction envelope.  He rolls a die to choose a weapon and chooses the crime scene at random from a pack of cards.

All of these are kept secret from you, the magician-detective, yet you are able to divine all three in your own time.

You explain that it is no use knowing who the murderer is, if you cannot link them to the weapon and crime scene.  They open the prediction envelope to find a note which tells them to turn over the card they wrote their murderers name on!

On the reverse of their freely chosen card (which they have had since the beginning of the effect) they find the murder weapon and crime scene!

Things to note:

  • You have three incredible divinations followed by an impossible kicker ending.

  • Make it a light hearted comic piece or a dark and brooding one.

  • Specially printed cards with fantastically atmospheric pictures of the murderers, scenes and weapons.

  • No difficult moves.

  • Extra gimmicks to make it all possible.

The best way to do this is with a small group with the lights down low.  Go on.  Freak them out.
